Interview with Author Lucia Walinchus (How to Raise a Smart Ass) and GIVEAWAY (iRead Book Tours Blog Stop)

I am happy to welcome author Lucia Walinchus to Laura's Reviews today to talk about her new book How to Raise a Smart Ass. I'm am currently reading the book (check back on Monday November 7th for a review) and it has been making me laugh out loud. I think any parent can relate to this book. Without further, Lucia Walinchus.

What genre do you write and why?
I do believe truth is stranger than fiction! I love a good story, but I mostly love nonfiction because I think it helps us learn all the weird and wonderful ways our world works. As a reporter, I have been fortunate enough to cover everything from US Senate races to giant sea turtles. Though when a 300-lb sea monster accidentally smacks you, that can really hurt.

Which was the hardest character to write?
Babies are fascinating because they are constantly learning about the world, and we really don’t appreciate all the skills we have mastered until we see a tiny human testing out their limbs for the first time. Because they aren’t verbal, though, it was a challenge to incorporate their thoughts into the story.

Do you have another profession besides writing?
I wear many hats, really. I’m an attorney licensed in three states. Toddler wrangler. “Best butt wiper in the world.”

If you’re a mom writer, how do you balance your time?
I think there’s always a challenge with small children to do things more efficiently. I try to use Google drive as much as possible so that I can work wherever I am. I think the key is to always be able to do a little at a time, and also to realize that anything you do with small children will take three times longer than you expect.

Any hobbies?
I love the outdoors (in fact I minored in environmental science!) So I love to take the kids outside as much as possible, and when we can, to treasures like our national parks. You can read about it in a million books, but actually going to see something like the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls is an an experience you’ll never forget.

Book Description:

How to Raise a Smart Ass is a funny, witty, rollicking ride through the joys of early parenthood. The so-titled “Best Butt Wiper in the World” delights audiences by recounting tales of ninja nurses, naughty knights, and super-duper poopers. Whether you’re a proud parent or you aspire to populate the world with tiny terrors of your own someday, this book will have you laughing out loud, or at a minimum buying lots of sanitizer. Kids are messy.
