More or Less a Marchioness by Anna Bradley

More or Less a Marchioness is the first book in what promises to be a great new romance series, The Somerset Sisters.

Iris has received and accepted a proposal from Phineas Knight, Lord Huntington and will soon be a Marchioness much her to Grandmother’s delight.  Iris has tapped down her own feelings and has been behaving with the proper decorum until one day she tries to kiss Finn and he will have none of it.  Soon afterwards she overhears him and his old mistress talking in the garden and she realizes that Finn has a dark side and that he is only marrying her as she will be the “proper” wife.  He admits that she will not be able to satisfy his dark desires.  He is also marrying her as the result of a bet.  Iris cannot abide by this and ends the engagement.  Once the engagement has ended, Finn is stunned and wants to learn why.  Somehow learning that someone is unattainable suddenly makes them so much more desirable.  Stuck together at a house party, Iris and Finn learn a lot more about each other.  Will they be able to find true love and desire with each other after all?

I enjoyed this regency romance.  It was a good romance and I enjoyed how Iris was able to finally break free and be the person that she really was instead of the person society wanted her to be to attract a husband.  I also thought it was hilarious when she started reading some naughty books in the house library to learn things that a proper young woman was not supposed to know.

With moving, it was nice to read a book that was humorous and a good romantic story.  I liked the other characters and look forward to reading more in this series.  I always love a good regency
romance.

Favorite Quotes:

“How had she drawn breath, with the weight of so many expectations upon her?”

“You’re everything I never knew I wanted, and everything I can’t live without.”

“I will always be honest with him and consider his wishes on every matter, but I will never ask Lord Huntington’s permission to do anything.”

Overall, More or Less a Marchioness is an enjoyable regency romance.
