On the Line by Fern Michaels (Bibliolifestyle Book Tour)

Thank you, Partner @bibliolifestyle @kensingtonbooks for the review copy of On the Line by Fern Michaels.

What type of book do you like to bring on vacation? We just returned from our mini-vacation tonight. On the Line by Fern Michaels was a great book to bring with me to read while on vacation. It was a quick read that that kept me involved in the plot. For me this was perfect water park reading.

Mateo Castillo is a rising chef working New York City. Just as he is about to be featured in a major cooking competition, he is found collapsed and bleeding out in his kitchen. His blood has elevated levels of mercury. He is told by hist attractive doctor to abstain from eating fish to recover. Yet, three weeks later he collapses again and finds himself back in the ER. What is happening to him? What secrets are his parents trying to keep when he calls them to obtain his medical history?

Mateo’s mystery really frames or bookends the main story which is the story of his parents Elena and Dante and grandparents, Gabriel and Sophia and their flight from Columbia. Gabriel and Sophia own a family bakery in the 1980s. Dante is a salsa instructor to make extra money while he attends college to become an engineer. Elena is also attending college to teach English as a second language. An incident of violence changes their world and forces them to flee their country. Will they be able to still accomplish their dreams? What has this to do with Mateo?

I like this action driven plot and I really enjoyed the journey. I also liked the underlying message of gratitude. It’s kind of hard to categorize this story. It’s a family drama with light romance, a daring escape, and a medical mystery all in one. I really enjoyed the story of this family.
