Happy 110th Birthday Georgette Heyer Giveaway!!

I love Georgette Heyer.  For someone like me that loves books written in the mid twentieth century and also loves historical fiction, I curiously didn't discover Heyer until about five years ago when I was in my late twenties.   I had recently moved to Kewaunee and was checking out the public library located so conviently close to my new home.  I picked up an interesting looking book (Sylvester by Georgette Heyer) and checked it out.  I was hooked soon after reading it and couldn't stop reading all of the Heyer novels that the library had.  I soon ran through them and was on the look-out for more. I discovered that Sourcebooks was printing great new editions of the books and soon began my collection.  I still have many Heyer novels I haven't read yet, but I can't wait to read them.

My second post on this site was about my love for Georgette Heyer.  I have loved many of her novels, but my favorite so far has been Cotillion.  As I stated in my review of the novel, ". The novel surprised me by taking the story line in a different direction than I supposed. By the end, I realized that Heyer had subtly changed my mind about the characters and had brought about the conclusion that I may not have expected, but by that point really wanted."

What is your "Heyer moment?"  This month Sourcebooks is allowing me to host an exciting giveaway with details below . . .

  1. I discovered Georgette Heyer through these great re-issues that Sourcebooks has been putting out recently. I read my first of her work last year, and I was hooked! Her style really reminds me of Jane Austen-- so classy. I haven't read any of her "modern" books yet, and I'm looking forward to it.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  2. I was so flabbergasted to 'discover' her just recently. I can't believe that I had never heard of her books before. I was at Sam's Club looking at the books when I got one of the sourcebook copies of The Convenient Marriage after the cover art caught my eye, loved it, and had to get more of her stuff.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  3. Thanks for the giveaway! I've been intrigued by Heyer's books since I first ran across them on the blogosphere - the mid-century writing, combined with historical and/or mystery plots, are all elements that interest me. Unfortunately, I have yet to read one of her books!

  5. I went to the bookstore and saw these beatiful books displayed and picked one up and read the back. It seemed like a good one so I bought it. After reading it I ran right out and bought several more. I'm hooked on Georgette Heyer because these are great books to read to my elderly mother :) Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. A good friend in JASNA kept on raving about Heyer as her comfort reads (what she reads when she is under the weather) and so I broke down and read The Reluctant Widow, and loved it. It's still my favorite.

I also love Richard Armitage reading Heyer--those are brilliant!!!

  10. I haven't read Heyer...yet.
I am intrigued by her because I was chatting with a fellow book blogger recently, Christina from A Reader of Fictions, and she commented that she thought Heyer's romance was classy for their covers (looking like an Austen classic). And I ended up curious about Heyer's work.

  11. I actually discovered Heyer's books when I was 12, standing by the library door waiting for my mother to pick me up.I noticed a whole shelf with eye-catching regency stripes. These were the old covers.I had my book bag filled with Louisa May Alcott's books so I promised myself next time! Well, my first book was The Grand Sophy and I loved it so much that I immediately checked all I could! I fell in love with her wit and characters and now I want to buy all the new covers! auroraione@yahoo.com

  12. I discovered Georgette Heyer through reviews on the Austenprose blog and then raiding my local library. I really enjoyed Cotillon, too, as well as The Grand Sophy & A Convenient Marriage (& most of the others I've read.)

  13. I discovered Georgette Heyer by Googling 'authors like Jane Austen'. I then went to the local library and borrowed 'The Grand Sophy', the only book of hers that they had. It was a lonely point in my life when I discovered her, and she cheered me right up and made me feel hopeful.

    Never looked back. :)

  15. Thank you for the giveaway!
My first Heyer book was Sylvester: Or the Wicked Uncle. I only picked it up because I was in a reading funk and I was, after reading Lauren Willig's fun adventure romances, willing to try a romance author that I had heard was rather akin to Jane Austen. I still love that first book!
