What is your favorite Christmas novel? A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens has long
been a favorite of mine. I also love to
watch the many different screen adaptations.
I was very excited to see a new devotional based on this beloved classic.
Thank-you to @tnzgift @kindredspiritbooks @tlcbooktours
for the review copy of A Christmas Carol Devotional by Rachel Dodge.
My thoughts on this devotional:
· This was a beautiful hardcover edition would make a wonderful gift.
· I love this quote in the introduction, “When seen through the lens of Scripture, his [Scrooge’s]story reminds us that each day is a gift, that the hardest hearts can soften, and that God can redeem and restore even the most broken parts of our lives. Themes of the past, present, and future swirl amid the fog and frost of Dicken’s tale, inviting us to reflect on all that God has already done, what He’s doing now, and what He’s getting ready to do next.”
· I also enjoyed this quote, “A Christmas Carol also provides a welcome reminder that Christmas isn’t about shopping or treats or parties. It’s not even about charity or good deeds. It’s all about keeping Christ close to our hearts, pondering the miraculous gift of His birth, and sharing the wonder of His love with those who feel lost and alone in a dark and broken world. It’s about realizing that even when we don’t deserve it, God gives us new mercies every single day.”
· This devotional is a companion to A Christmas Carol.
· This devotional covers 25 days. You can start reading it on December 1st and read one devotional each day through Christmas.
· Each day has a quote from the Bible, description and discussion of part of A Christmas Carol story, and it also discusses how it relates to Christianity. There is a “Prepare Him Room” section with thoughts how to prepare your heart for Christmas. Each chapter conclude with a Christmas prayer.
· I loved the beautiful illustrations.
· There is a great author’s note at the end of the book.
· I loved the Victorian Christmas Traditions at the end. There was one for each day and they were fun to read about. There were also great advent activities to go with all twenty-five days.
Overall, A Christmas Carol Devotional by Rachel Dodge
is a great way to use A Christmas Carol to draw you closer to God during the
Christmas season. I highly recommend it!
