Title: How to Train Your Dragon Book 6:  A Hero’s Guide to Deadly Dragons

Author: Cressida Cowell

Read by:  David Tennant

Publisher: Hachette Audio

Length: Approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes

Source: Downloaded through Overdrive from the Kewaunee Public Library

Does your family listen to audiobooks on road trips?  What audiobooks does your family enjoy? A series that our entire family can agree on is the How to Train Your Dragon audiobook series.    David Tennant one of the best audiobook narrators with a unique voice for each character.  The sounds effects are also fantastic.  The music between each chapter is great as well.

Plot Summary from Goodreads:  It's Hiccup's birthday, but that's not going to keep him from getting into trouble. To save his dragon, Toothless, from being banished, Hiccup must sneak into the Meathead Public Library and steal the Viking's most sacred book. But the Vikings see books as a dangerous influence and keep them locked up and under heavy guard. To save his friend, Hiccup must brave the Hairy Scary Librarian and his dreadful army of Meathead Warriors and face off against the formidable Driller-Dragons. Will he make it out and live to see his next birthday?

This one was much shorter than the rest of the books which confused me.  The entire family still enjoyed it, although ten-year old Penelope did not appreciate the name of the character Big Booby Bertha.  It was a strange character.   Otherwise, we enjoyed this audiobook and can’t wait to listen to book 7 on our next road trip.

How to Train Your Dragon Book 5: How to Twist a Dragon’s Tale by Cressida Cowell

Author: Cressida Cowell
Read by:  David Tennant
Publisher: Hachette Audio
Length: Approximately 3 hours and 49 minutes

Does your family listen to audiobooks on road trips?  What audiobooks does your family enjoy? Our family’s love for the How to Train Your Dragon audiobook series continues.  We recently listened to How to Train Your Dragon Book 5:  How to Twist a Dragon’s Tail on a family camping trip in the Upper Peninsula.  David Tennant cannot be equaled as a great audiobook narrator with a unique voice for each character.  The sounds effects are also fantastic.  My son Daniel loved the song they played between chapters and David Tennant’s singing in this one.  Although depending on what character he was narrating, the singing was either great or ear splintering.

Plot Summary from Amazon:  The heat is on for Hiccup! Someone has stolen the Fires-Stone from Volcano Island, which means the Volcano has become active and the tremors are hatching the Eggs of Exterminator Dragons! Can Hiccup return the Fire-Stone to the Volcano, stop it from erupting, and save the Tribes from being wiped out by the terrible sword-claws of the Exterminators?

The villain from the previous books, Alvin the Treacherous makes a surprising return…. Again.  The plot was similar to the previous books, but really, it’s Tennant’s great audiobook narration that I am listening too.  Although my 12-year old son Daniel is starting to feel annoyed by Alvin never dying and returning for each book.  It is part of the humor, but he is not amused.  My 14-year old son was reminded of his love for this series and promptly read the rest of the series when we returned home.  How to Train Your Dragon is a good series for family road trips.

Read by:  David Tenant
Publisher: Hachette Book Group
Length: Approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes

Our family really enjoys listening to the How to Train Your Dragon series of audiobooks on road trips.  The story is fun and enjoyable and David Tennant’s narration is outstanding.

In book number four, How to Cheat a Dragon’s Curse, Fishlegs must be rescued from the deadly disease Vorpentitis by finding the rare potato.  Where will he find one? Is the World really round and have no end?

All of the kids liked this book.  My husband Ben liked that Alven the bad guy from the previous books was not in it as he’s had enough of him.  Ha!!

Overall, the narration and humor made this audiobook a winner in our family’s travels.

How to Train Your Dragon Book 3: How to Speak Dragonese

Title: How to Train Your Dragon Book 2:  How to Be a Pirate
Author: Cressida Cowell
Read by:  David Tennant
Publisher: Hachette Audio
Length: Approximately 3 hours and 12 minutes
Source: Purchased from Amazon.com through Audible

Our family’s love for the How to Train Your Dragon audiobook series continues.  We recently started listening to How to Train Your Dragon Book 3:  How to Speak Dragonese on our family vacation last month and finished it up on a trip to Green Bay this past weekend.  The story keeps all of the family entertained and David Tennant cannot be equaled as a great audiobook narrator with a unique voice for each character.  The sounds effects are also fantastic.

In this chapter of the tale, our heroes run up against the Romans; adventure and hilarity ensue.  The villain from book two, Alvin the Treacherous makes a surprising return.  The plot was similar to the previous books, but really, it’s Tennant’s great audiobook narration that saves the story for us.  I found myself entertained solely by him, but the kids were very wrapped up in the tale.  How to Train Your Dragon is a great series for family road trips.
