It was a joy to reread The Boxcar Children with my
youngest child, Penelope. The Boxcar
Children is an excellent children’s adventure that stands the test of
time. My other two children, Kile and
Daniel loved reading The Boxcar Children as well when they are younger. What makes a book a perpetual favorite that
stands the test of time?
Although The Boxcar Children does have a sense of
taking place in the past, the adventure of four children trying to make it on
their own and using their own wits to create a home is the type of story that
really brings a child into the adventure.
They feel like it would be great if they could try this out on their
own. Penelope was very concerned about
the kids being on their own and was very happy by the ending. She also really loved Watch their dog.
Overall, if you are looking for a great story for a child
around second grade, I highly recommend The Boxcar Children.

My favorite Boxcar children book was always Surprise Island. :)
