Favorite Classic Christmas Movies

My love for Christmas movies started when I was a child. During the month of December, our entire family would gather on Sunday evenings, eat popcorn, and watch our favorite classic Christmas movies.

My siblings and I loved It’s a Wonderful Life and I still consider it one of my all time favorite movies. We used to watch it all year long, even in the summer! Now that I’m old age 31, I actually tear up when George thinks his life is not worth living, but then discovers how important his life is to so many people. It is a wonderful life after all.

I love White Christmas and Holiday Inn as well. I just love Bing Crosby. I think I can sing all of the songs from White Christmas and pretty much have the entire movie memorized. Luckily my husband loves this movie as well so we usually watch it on Christmas. Our TV has been taken over by children’s Christmas classics this year so we’ll see how it goes. White Christmas and Holiday Inn are fun movies, with great music, great dancing, and great romance.

The Bishop’s Wife stars Cary Grant as an angel. Enough said. A Miracle on 34th Street reaffirms my belief in Santa Claus for the child in me every time I see it. Although I like to watch it close to Thanksgiving as it has the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade as a central theme.

I love all versions of A Christmas Carol, but I really like the old version from the 1930’s the best. A Christmas Carol is a great story and really brings out the true meaning of Christmas for everyone. I love it!

A Christmas Story is definitely a new classic, but it is hilarious. Who can forget the leg lamp? The tongue on the flagpole or other favorite moments?

I really love old movies, and Christmas old movies are amongst my favorites. What is your favorite classic Christmas movie? Sound off below and vote on the poll on the right sidebar!

  1. It's a Wonderful Life for sure! I'm dying to watch it but I don't have it with me at school. I will have to wait another week I suppose.

  2. I always watched White Christmas with my mother and now my family watches it. Bing just gets us in the Christmas mood.

We also watch Muppets' Christmas Carol every year!

  4. I actually wish there weren't so many Christmas movies now so that they would have all of my old favorites closer to Christmas and easier to find.

  5. The original Miracle on 34th Street is definitely my favorite Christmas movie. That and A Christmas Carol. I am hoping to read A Christmas Carol this year since I have yet to do it.

  6. Your choices are wonderful, Laura. I also enjoy Miracle on 34th Street as mentioned by Literary Feline, as well as many others. I also like the classic Christmas movies for children, Charlie Brown's Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

  7. I can't decided which is honestly my favorite...It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Rudolph, or National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Sadly enough, I don't think I've ever watched "White Christmas". What is wrong with me?!

  8. A Christmas Carol is my all time favorite Christmas movie, though its constant airing has dulled its appeal, but between the older films it's hard to choose. I've watched them all so many times except for It's A Wonderful Life which, would you believe it, I've somehow never seen. I love Holiday Inn and White Christmas. I also like to watch Mame and Babes in Toyland during the holidays.

  9. Babes in Toyland - I haven't watched that in years! I always loved that movie as a child.

I should do another post about children's classic Christmas movies. I'm watching a lot of them now with my three year old son. He is VERY excited about Christmas and all things Christmas related!
