Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker (Lakeshire Park Blog Tour)

Life in Regency England could be quite difficult for a lady with no prospects.  Amelia and Clara Moore are the step daughters of the dying Lord Grey.  He has little love for them and wishes they did not exist.  His entire estate will pass on to another relative and he is leaving nothing to the girls.  Their own father’s estate was also entailed away to another relative.  With time not on their side, the sisters decide to travel to Lakeshire Park.  Invited to join a house party at the estate, Clara and the owner, Sir Ronald, first became acquainted during the sisters’ season in London.  Amelia and Clara hope that a match between Sir Ronald and Clara will save them both.

Before they arrive at Lakeshire Park, Amelia is annoyed by a gentleman who procures the last pair of gloves at a local shop as Clara has forgotten her own gloves. When they arrive at Lakeshire Park, they discover the annoying man, Peter Wood, and his sister Georgiana are also attending the party.  They are old friends of Sir Ronald, and are both hoping for a match between Sir Ronald and Georgiana.  Peter and Amelia try to get their sisters in the path of Sir Ronald and try to get each other out of the way of thwarting the matches.  Will Amelia and Clara be able to find a path forward in their lives?  Will spending time with Peter change Amelia’s opinion of him?

I greatly enjoyed Lakeshire Park.  It is a clean Regency romance, which I greatly enjoy.  I really loved the storyline.  I loved that Peter and Amelia had a first meeting that didn’t go well, but that they learned about each other and were able to change their minds. This storyline reminded me a bit of Elizabeth and Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.  I also liked that the story really delved into the hardship that women at the time faced as they tried to figure out how to make their way in the world.  Amelia had very difficult decisions to make in the book.  I loved her relationship with her sister Clara and how she tried to shield her from the hardness of the world.  It was a beautiful romantic novel and I loved reading it.

Favorite Quote:
“That is exactly the thing I appreciate most about love, Miss Moore.  Its opinion is not easily swayed by status or money or flaws.”

Overall, Lakeshire Park is a lovely clean Regency historical romance novel with a great storyline that had shades of Pride and Prejudice and took a real look at the plight of women during this time.  I highly recommend it for all lovers of Regency romance, Jane Austen, and a good story.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Brighton, England 1820
Amelia Moore wants only one thing--to secure the future happiness of her younger sister, Clara. With their stepfather's looming death, the two sisters will soon be on their own--without family, a home, or a penny to their names. When an invitation arrives to join a house party at Lakeshire Park, Amelia grasps at the chance. If she can encourage a match between Clara and their host, Sir Ronald, then at least her sister will be taken care of.
Little does she know that another guest, the arrogant and overconfident Mr. Peter Wood, is after the same goal for his own sister. Amelia and Peter begin a rivalry that Amelia has no choice but to win. But competing against Peter--and eventually playing by his rules--makes Amelia vulnerable to losing the only thing she has left to claim: her heart.
